Helped conceive and write textbook on Web design concepts and theories with Hillman Curtis, a world-renowned Web designer and digital filmmaker based in New York. Published by New Riders, Indianapolis, 2002.

HILLMAN CURTIS on CREATING SHORT FILMS for the WEB
Co-authored book with Hillman Curtis about creating digital films for the Web; text incorporates film history and theory to illuminate time-honored principles and strategies for contemporary filmmakers using digital video. Published by Peachpit Press, San Francisco, 2005.

VITREORETINAL SURGICAL TECHNIQUES, Second Edition
Helped edit 832-page textbook of ophthalmology, whose contributors include leading doctors from around the world. Project required extensive revisions for style and clarity, as English is not the first language for many of the contributors. Published by Informa Healthcare, 2006.


FILM PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE

FILMS ON FILM, Two films, 10 minutes each, 2005
Helped Hillman Curtis shoot two fictional shorts inspired by classic films

SUPERMAN XIII: WE’LL ALWAYS HAVE METROPOLIS, 10 minutes, 2003
Directed and helped shoot Superman parody as part of the New York Midnight Movie Making Madness competition. Film was first runner-up in the initial round.

GREENWICH STREET PROJECT, 10 minutes, 2002
Helped storyboard, film, and edit a documentary about Dutch architect Winka Dubbeldam and one of her recent residential buildings in lower Manhattan. Film was distributed via DVD to prospective buyers.

FRESH KILLS, Continuous-loop installation, 2001
Worked as PA with Mierle Ukeles, artist-in-residence with the New York City Department of Sanitation, film a nonlinear documentary about the Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island, NY. Film was screened at the Snug Harbor arts facility in that borough, spring 2002.

Cultural Criticism (Spring 2009 -- ongoing)
A course on the wide-ranging field of cultural journalism, focusing on the nature of "public intellectual" writing, arts reviews, profiles, and features on cultural topics. Additional issues include New Media, blogs, and appropriating academic thought for the popular press. 

Writing Short (Scheduled for Fall, 2010)
A course on crafting tight, effective articles of fewer than 500 words, intended to train writers for Web-based outlets as well as magazines, with a focus on economy of language that can be applied to longer pieces as well

Practical Film Analysis (Fall 2007)
Upper-level course analyzing Lars von Trier's 1996 film Breaking the Waves in depth, while relating it to additional films by von Trier and others to augment students' understanding of the film's place in film history and theory.

Cinematic Space: Urban, Pastoral, and Psychic Atmospheres (Spring 2007)
Upper-level course on the use of space in cinema, emphasizing film theory and analysis. Special attention paid to Gus Van Sant, Terrence Malick, Peter Greenaway, Alfred Hitchcock, and Martin Scorsese.

Upper-level course on realism in cinema, focusing on Lars von Trier’s “Dogma” method, as well as Soviet Realism, the French New Wave, and Direct Cinema
