I began my career in magazines, in 1999, through an internship at the Utne Reader. In the fall of that year, I moved to New York and factchecked at Lingua Franca before getting a job as associate editor and director of research at the now-defunct Silicon Alley Reporter.
After one year, I was laid-off from that job, just months before the magazine went out of business, and started freelancing, mainly about new media, art, and film for RES and The Independent. I also ghostwrote two books on New Media design and digital filmmaking in 2001 and 2005, respectively. I have written additional articles for American Artist, Artbyte, CameraWork, City Limits, PAPER, Runner's World, SOMA, Time Out Chicago, and the Utne Reader.
In late 2007, I helped launch a new political and social issues blog for Kenneth Cole Productions. The AWEARNESS Blog went live in February 2008 and ended in May 2010. In my role as chief blogger, I wrote an average of 10 posts per week about social rights, politics, and a variety of additional subjects that fall under its rubric of awareness.
